St. Johns Island

This Island is located about 10 kilometres south from the Singapore mainland and is only a 10 mintue boat ride.

Before its conversion to a holiday resort in the seventies it was a penal colony and also a drug rehabilitation centre.

Now the Island is excellent for day trippers and weekend stays and just perfect for those that wish to swim and snorkel off the beaches and for some to rent the beachside colonial bungalows. You can also purchase camping permits by contacting the Sentosa Discovery Centre.

The island was once known as Pulau Sakijang Bendera and is famous within Singapore's history in that it is the location where Raffles anchored before setting off to Singapore River.

This is a great place to visit for extended stays as it has toilets, change rooms and showering facilities. Daily Ferry services from the World Trade Centre include a short stop over at close by Kusu Island before arriving.
