Fauna
species you will find around the mangroves, ponds, mudflats
and forest include foreign and local species such as herons,
egrets, sandpipers, doves, woodpeckers, ducks, birds of prey,
crabs, mudskippers, snakes, lizards and kingfishers. Actually
you will find over 160 species of birds and 500 species of flora
on display.
Other uses of the park include
prawn and fish farms and as a educational tool that has a myriad
of displays on offer. If you are planning on completing any
of the 4 walking trails be sure to bring a hat, water, insect
repellent and comfortable shoes. The walking trails measure
from 500 metres to 7 kilometres and take from 30 minutes to
5 hours. Wear natural colours like dark green if you are planning
bird watching.
Facilities on offer include a
special Butterfly trail, nature gallery, hides, cafeteria and
theatrette.
The park, which was launched in 1989,
is open daily and has a small admission fee. Guided tours are
free and are only available on Saturdays with four start times. |
