Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery

The Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery when translated into English means 'Twin Groves of Lotus Mountain' or the place where Buddha was born and died under the Bodhi Tree.

Built in 1898 it is the oldest Monastery in Singapore and in 1980 it was gazetted as a national monument.

The Monastery has three main halls including the Hall of Celestial Kings, Dharma Hall and Mahavira Hall. The other two main features are the nine metre tall feature gates and the beautiful Dragon Light Pagoda.

The seven-storey building, located near Toa Payoh MRT station, was built entirely of granite and rises to a total hight of 29 metres.
