Thian Hock Keng

The Thian Hock Keng temple, also known as 'The Temple of Heavenly Happiness', is the oldest and most important Hokkien temple within Singapore.

It was built in 1841 by immigrants but was recently restored in 1999. It was originally used as a place for new immigrants and sailors to give thanks to God for a safe voyage to the island from distant places.

During the 1999 renovations a silk scroll with the handwriting of Qing Emperor Guang Xu (period of 1871 to 1908) was discovered within the temple.

This temple is located near the Al-Abrar Mosque and the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station. It is also close to nearby Lau Pa Sat food Courts.
